You know that moment when you guiltily watch a sweating runner working so hard to get up a steep hill from the seat of your air conditioned car on your way home to laze on the couch, eat chips, and watch a movie? This moment is very familiar to me. But last night, I WAS that runner.
I am beginning to get into the habit of asking myself this very motivational question: Why CAN’T you be that person, Andrea? That dedicated and influential teacher you work with? Why can’t you be that person, too? That person’s work ethic you admire? That writer’s inspiring productivity? That health-conscious individual? You get the point. It’s great to have role-models to look up to. A good portion of my life, however, has been spent sitting on the sidelines admiring these people but not realizing I have the potential to be like them too.
And the good news for you? If I can do it, you most definitely can too.
By stretching yourself beyond your perceived level of confidence you accelerate your development of competence.
