Lately I have been thinking about the people that I have come into contact with in my life that are merely acquaintances yet have made a significant impact on my life. And I mean very significant. Like my eyes well up with tears when I think of them. My psychologist is one of these people. Because of my discussions with him, and his ability to listen and understand my areas of struggle (even ones I was unaware of), I’ve begun to think and act much differently. I’ve learned some very valuable tools for facing each and every day with more calm, more awareness, and more happiness. I’ve learned lessons from him that I am convinced I would not have learned on my own.
The handful of yoga instructors whose classes I have attended have also influenced me. When I was pregnant 2 years ago I attended a prenatal yoga class over the winter. I’ll always remember my instructor. During a time when I felt more exhausted and self-conscious than I had ever felt she made me feel strong and fearless. It’s because of her that I can say I did a headstand in my last trimester of pregnancy!
These inspiring individuals would not have played a significant role in my life if I had not stepped out of my comfort zone to try something different. I guess my message to you today is look for those opportunities to experience something new because the people you meet along the way, even if you only know them for a moment, could have a profound impact on your life.
